Our History

Asian Montessori Education (AME) has been renamed from Montessori Education of Asia which was contributing to the Montessori society since 1988. MEA was founded in 1988 by a group of 5 representatives of teacher education programs interested in promoting authentic Montessori education and practice in Montessori education through our global network, along with other Asian Montessori societies and countless others, to adopt the Montessori philosophy into lives and especially in their work as educators.

From its inception, the organization’s objective has been to establish standards and criteria and to provide necessary guidelines, supervision, assessment and international accreditation for Authentic Montessori Teacher Training programs that prepare accomplished Montessori classroom teachers for both public and private schools across the globe. AME requires its Montessori Teacher Education Centers to prepare Montessori Teacher Trainers as well as Classroom Teachers in supervisory role who are qualified to prepare and train candidates enrolled in AME’s Montessori Teacher Education Courses.

Asian Montessori Education (AME) promotes and maintains the highest standards of authentic Montessori education, and continuously engages in advanced research and innovations being made in the field of philosophy, psychology and educational theory today. Asian Montessori Education does not adhere to the rigidity of traditional education and believes in the learning while enjoying freedom within limits and encouraging human individual to realize his full potential, thus, preparing learners to become seekers of knowledge.

Asian Montessori Education (AME) champions the grand vision of Dr Montessori emphasizing the importance of the child as the builder of world peace which is essential to the future progress of mankind and the future transformation of society.

Goals

Asian Montessori Education (AME) is committed to the concept of integral education and believes that teachers must be prepared and trained to facilitate the physical, intellectual, emotional, psychic and spiritual development of the child.
